Velocity Micro Acquires Gaming Boutique Overdrive PC

Strategic acquisition to enhance gaming and high performance market leadership with advanced overclocking technology

Richmond, VA — May 1, 2007 — Velocity Micro, the largest independent U.S. builder of custom, high performance computers and workstations, announced today that it has acquired Overdrive PC, a U.S. based boutique manufacturer of highly overclocked gaming and multimedia computer systems. Following the acquisition, Velocity Micro and Overdrive PC will maintain individual brand identities to collaboratively provide high quality, performance systems for a broad range of professional, enthusiast, and PC gaming customers.

Acquiring Overdrive PC gives Velocity Micro a further competitive advantage in the PC industry by bringing even higher computer performance to its larger and more mainstream customer base. Overdrive PC’s core technology includes Hyperclocking™, the most extreme mode of overclocking, which is the practice of tweaking PC components to reliably run at significantly higher speeds, thereby releasing more of the component's maximum potential.

Mario Cifaldi, CTO and founder of Overdrive PC, remarks, “Velocity Micro is clearly identified as an industry leader for building high quality, custom built PCs. We share their mission and values and I’m confident that the addition of the Overdrive brand will add new techniques to their arsenal of technology to create even faster and more powerful PCs for gaming and performance.”

"This partnership enables Velocity Micro to infuse Overdrive methods into Velocity PCs, giving us another performance advantage and improving our brand position even further,” said Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro president and CEO, “It will increase Velocity Micro’s market share in the high-end PC enthusiast segment, while giving us a stronger offering in our traditional upper mainstream channels. We want to be the single source for any performance enthusiast, and this acquisition strengthens our entire offering more than ever."

Henri Richard, AMD chief sales and marketing officer, commented, "AMD and Velocity Micro enjoy a close relationship driven by our shared passion for innovation and providing customers with a smarter choice. By joining forces with Overdrive PC, Velocity Micro is staking out new and compelling turf in a highly competitive industry and gains enormous potential to fundamentally transform the PC experience for customers everywhere."

"The combination of Velocity Micro's manufacturing, sourcing, distribution, and marketing capabilities along with Overdrive PC’s track record for pushing components to the limit should create a formidable line of PCs and make extreme gaming systems available to a much wider audience," said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the GPU business unit at NVIDIA. "By incorporating Overdrive PC's Hyperclocking™ technology with NVIDIA® SLI™ technology, Velocity Micro is sure to continue to have an elite gaming system with breathtaking performance."

"Velocity Micro, a long time Intel Premier Partner, is dedicated to delivering the ultimate PC experience by bringing the power and performance of the Intel Core 2 Duo Architecture to PC users," said CJ Bruno, Intel Director of Americas Marketing. "We're excited to continue working with Velocity Micro as they acquire Overdrive PC and move into a new stage of making advanced technology available to both gaming and mainstream consumers."

Overdrive PC will relocate all operations to Velocity Micro’s corporate headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, where Cifaldi will serve as Director of Advanced Technologies and also as General Manager of the Overdrive PC division. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
