Unreal Engine FAQ

How Multi-threaded is Unreal Engine?

Unreal is considered “lightly threaded,” meaning it can offload certain workflow functions to different threads, but is generally not accelerated by multiplying the threads out. A multi-threaded CPU is advised, but anything more than 10-12 cores will likely not return a benefit.

Does Unreal Engine need ECC RAM?

ECC – or error correcting RAM – is not something that Unreal specifically requires or benefits from. In most cases 32GB of DDR4 or DDR5 RAM are sufficient.

Why is cooling important?

The faster the PC hardware, the more heat it generates. Dissipating that heat properly is the key to a stable, long-lasting workstation. Velocity Micro’s 25 years’ experience has allowed us to innovate case design and CPU coolers to keep your workstation as fast and cool as possible.

Quadro or Geforce graphics?

Unreal is primarily a game development engine, so gaming graphics care the optimal choice for both visualization and rendering. We recommend RTX 40-series.
